‘International Designers Approach Jiangsu’s Manufacturing Industry’ Held in Dafeng

(Jul. 27, Jiangsu) On the morning of July 27, the joint conference of the project ‘International Designers Approach Jiangsu’s Manufacturing Industry’ supervised by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, sponsored by Jiangsu Economic and Information Technology Commission and Jiangsu Industrial Design Association, co-sponsored by Jiangsu International Cooperation Platform for Industrial Design, The East No. 1 Creative Industrial Park and DeTao, was held in Dafeng, Jiangsu Province. The forum was the second event of the project to accelerate the connection of international design with Jiangsu’s manufacturing industry, implement the strategic initiatives of ‘Made in China 2025’, and make the province's industrial design sector more international and high-end.



Participants of the event include: Mr. Luo Junjie, Deputy Inspector, Industry Policy Department, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; Mr. Zhou Yibiao, Deputy Inspector, Jiangsu Economic and Information Technology Commission; Mr. Guan Ming, Head, Economic Operation Bureau, Jiangsu Economic and Information Technology Commission; Mr. Bai Jinqiu, President, Jiangsu Industrial Design Association; Mr. Li Yongbo, Head, Jiangsu International Cooperation Platform for Industrial Design; Director, Jiangsu Industry Expert Committee of Industrial Design Competent officials from 13 municipal economic and information technology commissions across Jiangsu Province and other representatives from manufacturers and design agencies in Jiangsu Province.



Other participants include Professor Soon-In Lee, DeTao Master and President of International Council of Societies of Industrial Design, Professor Mathis Heller, DeTao Master of Automotive & Industrial Design, over 100 manufacturers and design agencies, and over 200 young makers. They shared their insights on how to facilitate economic and industrial upgrading and transformation in Jiangsu Province and promote the service-based development of manufacturing industry at the forum.



As the conference started, Mr. Zhou Yibiao introduced the background of the event. As he noted, Jiangsu’s manufacturing industry was large-scale, versatile, and moving towards higher end. Thus, Jiangsu needed masters and vice versa. He hoped that the project could bring industrial design to the spotlight, facilitate the integration between industrial design and industries, and promote the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing sector in Jiangsu.


Mr. Luo Junjie reaffirmed the importance of the event. According to him, ‘since 2010, the State Council of China has promulgated several important documents on the development of industrial design. In May this year, it approved the implementation of ‘Made in China 2025’, which took innovative design development to the strategic level of national development. Jiangsu is China's major manufacturer, with the highest industrial output in the country for several consecutive years. In recent years, Jiangsu has made progress in integrating industrial design with manufacturing industry and promoting the industrialization of industrial design. The event here today is designed to integrate industrial design resources from abroad with local industry so that local industrial design businesses match international practice.’


At the forum, Professor Lee, Professor Heller, Ms. Zhang Ying, China Co-Chair of Ivy Society, and Professor Zhang Linghao, Deputy Dean of College of Design, Jiangnan University, looked into the professional advantages and typical case studies, shared the visionary and innovative ideas of DeTao Masters, diversified the thinking on the integration of industrial design with manufacturing, and deepened the understanding of manufacturing service.



The event also featured the signing ceremony of Jiangsu International Cooperation Platform for Industrial Design with Jiangsu Gudeng Construction Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd, Jiangsu Ruihong Intelligent Equipment R&D Co., Ltd, Jiangsu Keruida Grinder Machinery Co., Ltd, and Jiangsu Tianzhao Machinery Co., Ltd.



According to Mr. Guan Ming, the project was aimed at integrating Chinese and international design resources, introducing advanced international concepts and design resources into Jiangsu, facilitating the connection between manufacturers in Jiangsu with design agencies, establishing a regular platform for connecting industrial design with the latest international trend, making the province’s manufacturing industry more international and high-end, and facilitating its transformation and upgrading.
