One of the pioneers in China’s art design and art education —— Min Wang


Professor Min Wang is one of the pioneers in China’s art design and art education. He once worked as senior art director and design supervisor for Adobe Systems and taught at the Graphic Design Department of the Art School of Yale University from 1989 to 1997. He is a key figure in the exchanges between the design community of China and that of the world and once worked as the Vice President of the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (ICOGRADA). At the ICOGRADA Conference held in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2005, Professor Min Wang signed the agreement on hosting the ICOGRADA World Design Congress in Beijing in 2009 on behalf of China with Jacques Lange, President of ICOGRADA.As key organizer of the Congress, he successfully hosted this international design event which has always been of critical importance for China. The Congress – including its 24 professional exhibitions – was attended by 2000 people from 58 countries and regions. The 2009 Beijing World Design Congress has greatly promoted the development of the design in Beijing and China as well as the exchanges with the world in this area. In 2004, he established the Art Research Center for the Olympic Games at China Central Academy of Fine Arts and worked as the director. Under his leadership, the Center designed the sports icon, the medal, the pictogram, the color system and image and identity guidelines. for the 2008 Olympic Games. This is the first time in the history of the Olympic Games that such an important design program has been accomplished by students and teachers from a university rather than major international companies. Thanks to the work of the Art Research Center for the Olympic Games, China Central Academy of Fine Arts won the commendation of the State Council in 2009. From 2006 to 2008, as the art director for image and landscape of the Beijing Olympic Committee, Professor Wang was in charge of the design and implementation of the overall look of the Olympic venues and the street landscape. The image and landscape design of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games created an atmosphere that was both of Chinese characteristics and full of the Olympic spirits. Professor Min Wang helped to elevate the image of Beijing into an international city with vitality. In February, 2012, Professor Min Wang officially joined DeTao and established the Design Studio of DeTao Master Min Wang. As a designer and design director with many years’ international design experience, Professor Min Wang will work with DeTao to provide companies and institutions with high-quality service in image design and brand planning in order to enhance corporate brand value and culture. Furthermore, he will also work with the world-renowned architects and experts in energy-saving, environmental protection and public policy in the DeTao Master Studio Cluster to build brand image for the city and serve to enhance urban landscape.

Master Studio

The design studio led by Prof. Wang focuses on elevating the brand value, empowering business culture and offering high-level services of image design and brand planning for businesses and institutions.


As an experienced designer and design manager, Prof. Wang has acquired an international vision and cross-cultural design skills, which will help companies build a business image and brand image that are up to international standards and offer all-dimensional services for Chinese enterprises going abroad and overseas companies setting up branches in China.


Prof. Wang will work with world famous architectural designers, experts in energy conservation and environment protection, experts in public policy and many other DeTao masters, to offer better designs of city brand image and landscapes in China, including the designing of city image, city sign system, city visual culture dissemination, street district renovation and improvement of city visual landscape.


During the unprecedented urbanization in China, most cities are losing their own visual uniqueness in their rapid development; they are putting on the same face, permeated by visual pollution and suffer a lack of humanistic care. However, these problems can be resolved through better designing. DeTao Master Studio Cluster hereby offers designs for cities and help cities find their lost city image and culture, so as to make each city unique, pleasant and friendly for living.
