Program Introduction


Advanced Ecological Architecture Design Program will introduce the students to the vital subject of the Qi of life, ecological and healthy architecture and town planning. Students will study and design interdisciplinary ecological courses like ecological design, ecological construction, ecological landscape, ecological interior design, ecological urban planning, ecological mechanical system, ecological sustainable system and ecological transportation system. The program will be led by the designer and builder of Israel Pavilion in 2010 Shanghai World Expo and DeTao Master of Pioneer Ecological Architect & Poet Haim Dotan together with his teaching team collaborating with teachers from SIVA(Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts).


Training Goals


Our new ECOLOGICAL ARCHITECTURE DESIGN 4 year Undergraduate Degree program at SIVA,school of Art and Architecture welcomes self-motivated, hardworking and creative student to become knowledgeable and innovative towards their future as successful design leaders in the ECO-Design fields of architecture and sustainability in China in the 21 century. Our goal is to create “Designed in China”: new innovative ecological Chinese garden towns and neighborhoods, which are based on sustainable principles, traditional Chinese philosophy, heritage and social way of life as well as modern culture and technologies, all coexisting in harmony with nature and people.


Curriculum Description

 

The 4 year curriculum is a progressive educational development of the student from the first freshman year through the last senior year. In the first year students will learn general and basic skills and will be introduced to Art, Architecture and ECO-fields which influence our cities and daily life. In the second and third year, students will study creative and advanced ECO courses in greater depth with focus on the integration of the interdisciplinary ECO-fields. Students will complete rigorous ECO-Design semester projects. In the last senior year students will focus on a larger scale ECO-Urban Design projects, integrating all ECO-interdisciplinary fields into their projects.

 

Career Prospective

 

Graduates of the SIVA· DeTao Advanced Ecological Design B.A. can pursue advanced degrees in China or in universities worldwide in areas such as Ecological and Environmental design, Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning, Landscape Design, Historic Preservation, and Interior Design. They can specialize in community and economic development, construction management, educational administration, environmental affairs and management, governmental affairs, landscaping development, property management, public policy and administration, real estate development, and urban and regional development etc. They can then choose to remain in academia, pursue higher education and teaching at universities and schools, or pursue careers in government, organizations or private companies.

 

Selection of students


The exercises test the applicant’s basic skills, creative thinking and problem solving skills as well as their artistic awareness. Focus on drawing skills, visual consciousness, design exercise, innovation skills, team work and entrance interview.

Haim Dotan
Chief designer of Israel Pavilion in Shanghai World Expo


Haim Dotan, international architect, urban designer, poet, philosopher, educator and artist. Following a career in Japan and the U.S.A., where he practiced in Manhattan, he established the firm of Haim Dotan Ltd. Architects in 1990 in Tel Aviv. The office focuses on innovative cutting-edge architecture, research and construction, and designs private and public projects in Asia, the Persian Gulf, Africa, Israel & Europe. Haim Dotan is an architectural pioneer in developing construction techniques for residential, commercial, industrial, educational and public institutions. In his projects, Architect Dotan creates a new language in the global architectural landscape. In 2011 Architect Haim Dotan was awarded Architect of the Year by the distinguished Israeli magazine “Economics”. In 2010 Architect Haim Dotan was chosen as “Most Distinguished Architect” by the Israel Association of United Architects. In 2008 Haim Dotan won the Israel Foreign Ministry DBOT tender as the developer, contractor, designer and architect of the Israel Pavilion in EXPO 2010 World Exhibition in Shanghai, China.
