Happy Home, Ecological, Living-friendly and Creative Environment Design

Course Description


From 10th to 16th of July, ‘SIVA•DETAO Advanced Class’ intensive training course (theme: happy home; ecological, living-friendly and creative environment design) started at Environment Design Department, Faculty of Art and Design, Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. The course was led by Prof. Haim Dotan, a leading master in ecological architecture and a poet from Israel. Under the instructions of Prof. Haim Dotan, 23 students from Environment Design Department explored the possibilities of future ecological and living-friendly environment, and delivered satisfying work during just 6 days.


Prof. Haim Dotan has studied Chinese traditional culture in depth and advocates the philosophy of Laozi – ‘teaching without words’ which means one should learn from nature and apprentice to all the living. He have integrated his understanding of traditional Chinese culture into his teaching and developed his unique teaching philosophy. The course has tremendously intrigued the students to explore ecological environment design and ignited their passion for design in 6 days. Prof. Haim Dotan believes to ‘teach through lively activities’ by combining an open, relaxed and free atmosphere with a serious, scientific and reasonable attitude towards research. The students and teachers involved were very much impressed and inspired by him.


1、Reading and writing poems, singing, and drawing. Students will start looking for creative inspirations;
   2、Exploring functions, lighting and ventilation of architectures;
3、Exploring campus environment and learning from nature;
4、Visiting the professor’s studio and discussing design practice.

Haim Dotan

Haim Dotan, international architect, urban designer, poet, philosopher, educator and artist. Following a career in Japan and the U.S.A., where he practiced in Manhattan, he established the firm of Haim Dotan Ltd. Architects in 1990 in Tel Aviv. The office focuses on innovative cutting-edge architecture, research and construction, and designs private and public projects in Asia, the Persian Gulf, Africa, Israel & Europe. Haim Dotan is an architectural pioneer in developing construction techniques for residential, commercial, industrial, educational and public institutions. In his projects, Architect Dotan creates a new language in the global architectural landscape. In 2011 Architect Haim Dotan was awarded Architect of the Year by the distinguished Israeli magazine “Economics”. In 2010 Architect Haim Dotan was chosen as “Most Distinguished Architect” by the Israel Association of United Architects. In 2008 Haim Dotan won the Israel Foreign Ministry DBOT tender as the developer, contractor, designer and architect of the Israel Pavilion in EXPO 2010 World Exhibition in Shanghai, China.
