Course Description

In DeTao master Mathis Heller’s practice workshop, you will experience a world-class design process within 4 days and make a big difference in your design career.
The workshop is themed with Workshop of Urban Mobility Vehicle, and it will simulate the work pattern and the actual design environment of Mathis’ design company in Netherland. In real life situation – an intense and entertaining working environment, your capabilities as a designer will be challenged in an all-round way from group discussion to design concept competition. Master Heller will share his 15 years’ experience as a chief and guide designers in the four-day workshop, aiming to assist you understand how international top design companies provide clients solutions. As well as being familiar with design environment, you will become more confident at job interviews and become clearer about your future development.

Mathis Heller is an automotive and product designer with 25 years of experience and with studios in Amsterdam and Shanghai. His products received countless international design awards, including the Red Dot ‘best of the best’ Award and the iF Design Award Gold. After receiving a masters degree at the University of Art and Design, Burg Giebichenstein, he spent several years working in Munich, Germany for clients such as BMW, Ford, MAN Truck and Bus and Siemens. Later Prof. Mathis Heller was chief designer at one of the leading design agencies of The Netherlands. Since 2011 Mathis Heller is Professor at the Shanghai Institute of Visual Art and Master of Automotive and Industrial Design at the Detao Masters Academy Shanghai, where his Asian studio is located. Since 2014 he is Vice Dean of the China Industrial Design Association - Detao Innovation Institute. Recently he was appointed State Foreign High-End Expert of China. Heller is also jury member of several international design awards, including the iF Student Design Award and the Car and Driver 10Best Award and columnist for several car magazines.
