亲爱的2020届BIPS毕业生们,

Dear 2020 BIPS graduates,

 

三个月前我给你们发消息谈到由于新冠疫情爆发,我们的BIPS实验班课程需要做出改变,我们对此深感担忧。那时候我们完全不清楚怎么来解决这个难题。但是我相信我们同舟共济可以攻坚克难。现在,我可用骄傲地宣称你们、教师、德稻教育和视觉艺术学院的管理层们真的做到了这一点。

Only 3 months ago I sent you a special message about our joint concern in regards of our Advanced BIPS programme and the changes we planned due to the Covid-19 situation. By that time, we were not completely sure how to solve the issue, but I made it very clear that we could turn the tide with joint forces. And now, just only three months later, I am more than proud that all of us, whether it is you, our teaching staff, the DeTao and SIVA educational management and us Masters, succeeded by doing so.

You, my dear year 4 students, are the ‘cherries on the cake’ of our programme with successful achievements. As true heroes you delivered an amazing job and are the proof that we beat the situation. You showed us that you are flexible and resilient. An extra bonus quality which you have learnt that will benefit your future career. No one will forget the circumstances like we had together. For now, you are ready to dive 'into the great wide open'. Your BIPS advanced academical programme at De Boer Wang Studio has now come to an end. You can be as proud as we are.

For now, I wish you all the luck in the future, whether this is for further studying, starting to work for a company or even starting a professional career on your own. Due to the unprecedented challenges COVID-19 has brought on us, you may be the only students who graduated in this unique in the history of higher education; we have also witnessed the progress of SIVA-DETAO school of design together and strived for the development of BIPS. Students, maybe you will encounter many difficulties after graduation! The future you face is full of uncertainty, and there will be huge challenges and competition. 作品介绍/Descriptions:


全球饥饿人口自2015年以来逐年增加,由于全球人口增长与城市化的压力,全球食物系统与环境将面临重大危机。为应对这场危机,粮食保护和可持续消费成为国际性的议题。本项目从食物浪费的源头食物消费入手,运用思辨设计的手段,通过结合当下新起的人工合成食物技术与未来食物消费的可能,提出一种面对未来消费的食物单位。通过规范化食物大小和营养,食物供应商可以创造基本单位,使得每个人的食物消费可视化,以减少不必要的食物浪费,用更可持续的方式面对未来食物压力。方食为未来的消费方式提供了一个新可能,理性消费是每个人力所能及的责任,它并不意味着节制自己的欲望,而是挽救那些本可以不被浪费的资源,尤其是在资源面临枯竭的当下。


Since 2015, famished population globally has been increasing year by year. Under the pressure of population growth and urbanization, a major crisis has emerged on global food system and the environment, in response to which food conservation and sustainable consumption have become an international topic. This project addresses food consumption--the source of food waste, and applies the method of speculative design to propose a food unit addressing future consumption through the combination of new synthetic food technology and the possibility of future food consumption. By standardizing the size and nutrition of food, food suppliers can create basic food units to visualize everyone's food consumption, reduce unnecessary food waste, and diminish future food pressure in a more sustainable way. Cube provides a new possibility for future food consumption. Rational consumption is responsibility of every human being, it does nwosot necessarily mean restraining personal desires, but more like to restore resources that would otherwise go to waste, especially when general resource depletion is still pendent.

高羽辰的项目能从众多作品中脱颖而出,是因为它挑战了我们对日常生活的理解,探索了食物消费的整个流程,从思辨设计的角度给出解决方案。项目中她表现了高度的投入和热情。虽然项目涉及的面很广,但是她依然能从为何关注食品浪费的角度出发,进行深入调研,最终得出符合逻辑的结果。她审视了过去和现在的趋势,并对未来的可能情况做出了合理的决定。展示中将调研过程和结果进行合理组织,很好地阐述了自己的项目。


Diletta’s project stands out of a handful of projects as it challenges our understanding of how we live our lives today, explores the whole process of food consumption, and presents a speculative design solution. Throughout the whole project she has shown dedication and passion. Wide as the range of topics this project tries to cover, its designer managed to focus on a key perspective and came up with a logical conclusion based on insightful research. She studied past and current trends and made rational conjecture on what future might look like. This project is well illustrated with a rational organization of research process and its conclusion.

今天,我们生活在一个瞬息万变的世界中,成功需要创造力和创新。一个问题对应一个答案是我们中国学生最擅长的,但要想结合新思想得出新结论并不是件容易的事情。不幸的是,在当今大多数学校中,创新仍然不是有价值的学习目标。于是我希望让我国的儿童能够早期接触设计,该项目以设计思维为核心内容,创客教育作为理论支持,通过对于学龄期儿童的研究,创造出一种寓教于乐的设计思维启蒙方式——儿童设计启蒙游戏。目的是通过该项目在家庭和学校中的应用,让儿童在边玩边学的过程中,接触设计思维这一概念,同时可以达到锻炼儿童的创造力、想象力以及动手能力的目的,希望该项目在今后的儿童设计教育领域可以起到启发性的作用。

 

Today, we live in a fast-changing world where creativity and innovation are prerequisites for success. Chinese students are good at finding fixed answers to questions, yet it is not easy for them to have new ideas and discoveries. Unfortunately, in most schools today, innovation is excluded as a valuable purpose of learning. Thus, I hope children in China can get in touch with design early and understand it much better.This project is mainly based on “design thinking” and supported by “maker education” theories. According to my research on school-age children in Shanghai, I began pondering how to create an enlightening way to introduce design thinking to children that combines teaching with playing. Finally, I design a mind game for them to develop their design mindsets while boost their creativity, imagination, and hands-on ability during extracurricular workshops, which hopefully inspire future design education for children.

王大胤从自己学习设计的切身体会和困惑有感而发,探究问题产生的原因,思考设计的目的,方法,从而设计了一个帮助儿童设计思维启蒙的游戏。项目主题在当下国内儿童教育领域很有研究的意义,整个做项目的过程也是他对设计思维逐步加深认识和理解的过程。其中利用原型进行实际测试的部分很精彩,通过从想法到实际测试,收获了很多意想不到的反馈,然后针对具体问题进行改进和完善,这种工作方法非常棒!

 

Starting from personal experience and confusion in learning design, Alan explored the cause of problems and contemplated the purpose and methods of design to create a game that helps children have a kick start with design thinking. Such a topic is meaningful for pre-school education in China, and the project process has deepened his understanding of design thinking. Alan did a marvellous job with prototype testing, a phase to translate ideas into real tests, in which he received many unexpected feedbacks and refined the solution accordingly. What a work method!





三、灵丹妙药 / Panacea

年轻的上班族是城市发展与城市生活中最活跃的人群,分布在全国不同的城市,每天过着朝九晚五,三点一线的生活。他们代表了城市人群最典型的生活方式。调研发现当代的饮食、生活压力、生活行为等,无形之中影响到都市人的体质健康。生活在丰富多彩社会的现代人,应该如何看待健康问题呢?如何唤起他们的健康意识?如何能获得健康,远离或预防“现代病”?

 

该项目是概念性项目,不会从医学的专业角度治愈这些现代病,而是以诙谐有趣的方式来进行设计唤起人们对健康的意识,让人们更加关注于平时的生活方式,从而提前预防现代病的产生或缓解现代病的症状。

 

Young office workers are the most active people in urban development and urban life. They are distributed in different cities across the country and live a nine to five, three o'clock life every day. So they represent the most typical lifestyle of urban people. The research found that the contemporary diet, life pressure, life behaviour, etc. have an invisible impact on the physical health of urban people. How should modern people, who live in a colourful society, think about health? How to arouse their health awareness? How can we get healthy, stay away from or prevent "Modern Diseases"?

 

The project is a conceptual project, which will not cure these modern diseases of the medical point of view, but to design in a humorous and interesting way to arouse people's awareness of health, so that people pay more attention to their lifestyle, so as to prevent the emergence of modern diseases in advance or alleviate the symptoms of modern diseases.

Crystal’s project has a creative topic and clear target group. It has abundant research, including desk research, case study and market research. This narrative project has an enriched design process and a unique style. Its humorous design language can easily bring the audience into the project. Crystal employed many ways of expression, such as printed matters, product design, website design and so on, to create a series of experience. The project is very complete.



四、发现 / Discover

随着中国旅游业的快速发展,越来越多的年轻人成为旅游用户中的主力人群,如今随着5G时代的来临,传统的GPS导航软件和旅游软件的弊端渐渐显露,已不能满足游客的需求,所以这个项目将结合AR技术与GPS技术,可以实时为游客提供精准的AR导航服务以及身临其境的个性化移动服务,让游客拥有更好的旅游体验。


Thanks to the rapid development of China's tourism, increasing number of young Chinese have joined the major users of tourist apps. Nowadays, the advent of the 5G era further exposes the shortcomings of traditional GPS navigation and review software which fail to meet the demand of tourists. To solve this problem, my project will combine AR with GPS with accurate real-time AR navigation services and immersive sensation to provide visitors better travel experiences.

Fabien masterfully creates a utopia. A vibrant city, full of energy and iconic neon signs. Her brand identity design reflects this jovial mood perfectly, and her UI design seems to be both usable and accessible. DISCOVER is a must-have app for every traveler.

 


五、不正 / No Mean

在由大众审美主导市场的时代,蔬果也不能幸免。消费者对蔬果外貌的挑剔导致了大量不符合消费者审美的蔬果被排挤在市场之外。作为消费者和设计师,我在探索中国消费者的购物习惯后,在超市发起了名为“不正”的丑食运动,在零售端寻找改善人们消费观念的方法。通过设计消费者在消费场景中接触到的物品,让消费者在购物过程中意识到零售端食物浪费这一问题。同时,对蔬果的偏见也存在于真实的消费市场之外的社会生活之中,希望能够通过项目引发人们对于大众审美的反思,也希望能够通过这个项目让人们意识到社会需要更多的理解和包容。


In the generation when the market is led by the popular aesthetic, vegetables and fruits are also included. A number of vegetables and fruits that don't match the popular aesthetic got kicked out of the mainstream market because consumers are picky about the looks. As a consumer and a designer, I started an ugly food movement called No Mean rooting for the vegetables and fruits of which looks don't match the popular aesthetic, aiming to find out the ways to enhance people's conception of consumption after I research the consuming habits of Chinese customers. It aims to make consumers be conscious of food waste during the consuming process by making the consumers get contacts with the stuff designed. At the same time, discriminations against vegetables and fruits not only exist in the market but also in the real society. We hope we can make people rethink profoundly about the popular aesthetic and realize more understanding and tolerance are needed in society.

作品的出发点很有意思。从一个很小,看似不起眼的角度(被人们挑剩后品相不好的水果)从而扩展到环境、经济、社会等一系列的问题。作品的完整度高,同时在不同环节展示了很多好的创意。前期调研丰富,收集了大量网络问卷数据以及实地考察与采访。作品的视觉呈现饱满,风格新颖。设计时,需要提升系统化设计的思维,不能过度专注细节,而忘记了整体。


The project has an intriguing start point. It begins with a small, seemingly trivial, perspective and expands to discuss a series of problems such as environment, economy and society issues. The project is complete, showing many good ideas in different phrases. Ego conducted abundant research, including many questionnaires, field trips and interviews. The visual expression is luscious with a unique style. However, she needs to be more systematic in design. Don’t be obsessed with details and forget the whole picture.



六、时间便利店 / Time store

作品介绍/Descriptions:


未来时间资本主义时代下,时间将成为越来越稀缺的资源,未来人们购买产品与服务将更加注重时间这一因素。于是我有了时间便利店这一设想,并且把时间与金钱的概念互换,设计了时间货币。在时间便利店里,人们可以利用有限的时间货币去“购买”自己的生活。时间便利店是对未来有无限畅想的概念设计,该项目旨在让人们引发更多关于时间与生活、工作等开放性思考。


Time is becoming an increasingly scarce resource in the era of capitalism. In the future, more and more consideration would be given to time when people make decisions on purchasing products and services and that’s when the concept design of time convenience store occurred to me, switching the concepts of time and money and introducing the idea of time currency. In time convenience store, people can purchases using limited time currency, which is a conceptual design indicating the unlimited imagination of future life. The project aims to inspire people to see time and life from a more open perspective.

A very good project in general! It introduces a novel topic covering adventurous innovation and a reflection upon this age. Abundant research with a clear target group, including desk research, case study and market research. Design process features a unique style and avant-garde ideas thus indeed eye-catching. Eva employed different approaches and expanded the project in many areas, from 2D to 3D, from branding and production to website and space design. A slight flaw of this project is lack of preciseness when addressing a few details.






七、豫文化/Xiyu Culture

当下,有越来越多的媒体供我们以不同的方式放松和交流。


但是,传统豫剧仍然保留着许多古板规则,特别是对许多年轻人来说,豫剧无法吸引他们的兴趣。本项目探索创新设计,以年轻人日常能接触的方式对豫剧进行再设计,吸引年轻人对于豫剧的兴趣,从而更好的推广和宣传豫剧。


Now, there are more and more media for us to relax and communicate in different ways.


However, traditional Henan opera still keeps many old rules, especially for many young people, Henan opera can not attract their interest. This project explores innovative design, and redesign Henan opera in a way that young people can touch everyday, so as to attract young people's interest in Henan opera, so as to better promote and publicize Henan opera.

对传统文化的保护和传承是当下引起较多关注和思考的问题,课题很有研究的价值,同时也是个很有挑战性的项目。钟宇在项目展开上积极主动,项目研究方向明确,探索豫剧的宣传推广表现形式,以引起更多人年轻人的关注和兴趣。为了可以寻找到符合理念的视觉形式,钟宇在视觉部分做了很多尝试,探索视觉表现的可能性,并且针对每次尝试进行分析,不断改进完善方案,这是展开项目探索的好方法。


The protection and inheritance of traditional culture is a valuable and challenging topic which has elicited attention and reflection. During the project, Demi has always been active with a clear research direction to help Henan opera attract more youngsters by exploring new forms of promotion. In the pursuit of suitable visual forms, Demi made many attempts to explore the possibilities of visual expression, analyzing the outcomes and refining her project each time. It is such a good way to explore a project.


八、字体变色龙/Typography Chameleon

字体不是孤立于社会的存在,而是社会中的一部分,社会的变迁和变化牵引着字体的变化,许多曾经流行的字体已经不复存在,但其背后的故事和记忆仍存 在那一代人的心中,这是字体的一种故事性。在不同的社会话题中,字句作为一种群体共鸣的载体,在新的表达形式中表达着每一个人的态度和情感,这是字体的一种态度。技术上的发展使字体与人们交互的方式的越来越多,这是字体的一种交互的形式。我尝试探索这些方向并用视觉表现在我的项目中。最终制作一个网页并分别置入了不同主题的十二个可交互的动画体验,该项目的目的是希望通过趣味的交互方式的把字体不同方向的变化展示给年轻的大众,并引起共鸣和开放性的思考


Typography change along with social changes as typography, rather than isolate itself from society, is a vivid part of society expression. Although many once-popular typographies faded away through time the stories and memories behind them remain in the minds of generations, which we can describe as the story-telling feature of typography. In the discussion of different social topics, texts and typography serves as the carrier of group sentiments and expresses individual attitudes and emotions at a new level, which we can conclude as the attitude of typography. Advanced technology generated more connection between users and typography, which we can see as new means of interaction with typography. This project will analyze these aspects of typography and visually presents my findings, the eventual outcome being a set of twelve interactive animation experiences out of the three themes in the form of web pages. The purpose of the project is to illustrate to the younger generations the changes of typography in different aspects through interesting interaction, to arouse resonance and inspire new thinkings

Creative topic, abundant research. This robust design has a unique style with an experimental and challenging process. John overturned the concept of traditional graphic design and boldly integrated coding into it. At the same time this project reflects John’s multidimensional thinking of society, history, culture and personal interest. In the era of internet and globalization, the project presents a brand new experience through the combination of creativity and social events.
